The Changemaker Way™ is a meticulously designed course supported by a Changemaker Educator to help young people let go of contention and discover a profound connection to their authentic selves, learning their way and pursue their passion with purpose resulting in action which contributes positively to society. It's nothing like school. From the struggle or emotional contention with themselves, possible limited time and attention available by caregivers, together with anxiety from past traditional educational environments and experiences, or for other reasons, the young person often begins their way on the changemaker journey being shy, lost, anxious, bored, apprehensive, confused, unclear or doubting their ability to learn yet have a specific goal (conscious or unconscious) essential to them to be fulfilled, This is the possibility for neuro-typical and neurodivergent learners.
We assist students experiencing challenging emotions and mind set and so-called 'deficits' in communication, social, and life skills to develop skills and feel equipped to integrate confidently as focused and contributing young people in the community. For this reason, we support parents and caregivers in identifying appropriate social learning environments for their young person to confidently connect with themselves and be clear on the way forward as they work in a structured yet flexible way. Learning and connection occurs when environments are safe - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually allowing teens and young adults to be themselves unconditionally.
Self-discovery/exploration and questions to promote imagination and critical thinking. Who were they in their past, who are they and what they enjoy now, and who are they becoming. The young person is ignited by clarifying their passion for what to learn and for creating their unique one and five year vision. For older teens, the ten-year vision is added. This step has a high potential to uncover and/or confirm a long-term vocation or career path, adding to their 'why' and clarity on who they are.
Teens express their hero’s journey verbally, via illustration, in song, or when possible, in writing a story, play or poem. We support the young person with what it means to discover and express their story and then own their strengths, knowledge, wisdom and abilities. The teenager can add these newly discovered strengths to their resume. A movie documentary entitled ‘We Rise Up’ is viewed and discussed as part of module two.
In this module, we continue to uphold our commitment to individualised learning and confident self-expression. A meaningful passion-based action plan is created with continued group and/or one-on-one education specialist support and mentoring tailored to the unique needs of each participant. This encourages and allows the young participant to take the initiative for ownership as it determines the detail of the ‘how’ their learning proceeds using their plan. This is the module where the integration of all other learning and discoveries from the previous modules are aligned appropriately, respecting parents, carers, distance education schools, learning centre mentors and medical practitioners At this process step, self-directed, self-motivation and self-organisation goals are further scaffolded and embraced, for all learners. Life skills are made clear and fun with a successful and holistic plan which is now able to be implemented with ease. This growth journey is mapped to determine career paths, including future study, business development skills, conscious financial awareness and general capacity building to happily and confidently enter the community. It is sometimes possible for the participants project to be prepared to be presented as a project for sharing locally or globally in various communities. If the teenager wants to continue learning and earning from their passion project and duplicate it, ‘The Changemaker Way’ has the professional structure and connections to allow this.
